On-demand food and grocery delivery platform, foodpanda has onboarded the first batch of transgender riders, and equipped them with bicycles and smartphones as part of its initiative to building a more inclusive environment for transgender individuals nationwide, said a press release on Thursday.
The delivery platform implemented the initiative in collaboration with TransEnd, an organization dedicated to empowering members of the Bangladeshi transgender community. TransEnd has facilitated the process and supported foodpanda in hiring and training the riders.
The release said, initially, 20 riders have been deployed in Chattogram and Dhaka. Additionally, several other members of the transgender community have already been working as warehouse staff in foodpanda’s pandamart dark stores.
Marking the end of their weeks long training, a ceremony was held at foodpanda hub office in Chattogram on Thursday where the gears were distributed among the riders.
