Garment workers’ salaries, allowances payment completed: BGMEA

Although the entrepreneurs of the garment industry struggled to make Eid-ul-Azha happy for the labor brothers and sisters, they continued to make every effort to pay the due dues and with the sincere cooperation of all, the labor brothers and sisters are going to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families in a festive atmosphere.

BGMEA has requested Minister of Commerce, Home Minister, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Minister of Shipping, Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Directorate of Inspection of Factories and Establishments, various law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies, labor leaders and media to all concerned. Thank you very much.

Salary picture in apparel industry at a glance

  • The number of factories in operation is 1835 in Dhaka and 325 in Chittagong, totaling 2160.
  • Salary for the month of May has been paid in 100% factories.
  • Eid-ul-Azha festival allowance is being provided in 100% factories. It may be noted that 4 factories are in process of payment of festival allowance, which is being paid today.
  • To the knowledge of BGMEA, there is no such information about payment of salaries and allowances elsewhere.

Responding to the government’s call, following the request of BGMEA, the garment factories are giving leave to all the worker siblings from June 13 to June 15.

Following BGMEA’s request, BGMEA has thanked the Honorable Governor of the Bank and the MDs of the Scheduled Banks for keeping the branches of Tapsili Banks in the areas related to the garment industry open on public holidays to facilitate the payment of salaries and allowances to the labour-intensive garment industry sector before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azhar.

EPB, Chittagong Port, Chittagong Customs House, ICD Kamalapur, Dhaka Customs, Mongla Customs, Benapole Customs and Pangaon Customs House and Customs Bond Commissionerate offices of Dhaka and Chittagong on public holidays to keep the country’s export business running along with the import-export activities of BGMEA export oriented garment industry and At the same time thanked all concerned for keeping these customs houses and customs stations-related ports, bank branches and other stakeholder institutions open.
