Installation of the generator stator in its design position has successfully been completed in the turbine hall of Unit-1 at Rooppur nuclear power plant (NPP).
According to Rosatom, the Russian contractor of the Rooppur NPP project, the installation works were performed by specialists of VdMU LLC branch office in Bangladesh.
The generator stator is the main element of turbine unit electrical equipment, which is designed for conversion of mechanical power received from the turbine to the electric power, said a Rosatom statement.
“The generator stator is the heaviest element of the power unit equipment with a total weight exceeding 440 tons. Completion of its installation in the design position allows us to proceed with full-scale works on installation of the turbine hall main equipment”, noted Alexey Deriy, Vice President of ASE and project director for Rooppur NPP Construction.
The turbine generator TZV-1200-2 was developed and manufactured by Power Machines JSC.
The advantages of this type of turbine generator are fire safety, enhanced reliability, high overload capacity due to low heating and vibration levels, lack of shaft oil seals, fans and gas coolers.
Rooppur NPP will be equipped with two Russian VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MWe.
This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements. Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation, Russia is the general designer and general contractor of the project.
According to Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, the implementing authority of the RNPP, the first unit of the power plant was scheduled to start operation in 2022 and second one in 2024.
But recently the first unit’s operation was rescheduled to 2024 and second unit to 2025.
