BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said the government support would be instrumental in seizing emerging opportuneness and also dealing with challenges in the RMG industry of Bangladesh.
He made the remark during a meeting with Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, in Dhaka on recently.
BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President Miran Ali and Director Asif Ashraf were also present at the meeting.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan handed over a cheque of donation of Taka 1.5 crore to Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus at the Prime Minister’s office.
BGMEA made the donation to the Prime Minister’s fund to help the poor affected by Covid fallout.
They had discussions on the challenges and potential of Bangladesh’s RMG industry and strategies to make use of the opportunities.
Their talks also encompassed the issues regarding graduation of Bangladesh from LDC and its possible implications on export-oriented trade and preparedness to deal with the new challenges in the post-LDC era.
They also discussed the priorities of the industry in the coming days to cope up with changing trends in the global apparel industry, especially brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Faruque Hassan expressed thanks and gratitude to the government for providing crucial support to the RMG industry during the first and second waves of the Covid pandemic that helped the sector to survive and turn around.
He also said the RMG industry is placing increased focus on remodeling business, shifting to a value-added one through innovation, diversification, and technology upgradation to make the industry sustainable and cost competitive.
The RMG industry would needs the support of the government to prepare for the challenges and utilize the opportunities created for the sector, he added.
