KrayonMag observes International Mother Tongue Day

On the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day on 21 February, this year KrayonMag has arranged an array of wonderfully unique and diverse programs and events under its Bangla Calligraphy Campaign.

These programs include an exhibition on Bangla artistic writing,  a webinar participated by young budding writers,  mural painting at two of the main areas of Dhaka and last but not least,  publications of book and brochure on Bangla Calligraphy.

The grim fact that even though being one of the main languages in the world,  Bangla writing is still not being widely used in the official and institutional sector motivated KrayonMag to take up strong initiatives this year in observance of 21 February. In this course, firstly, mural painting programs were arranged at two main areas of Dhaka Metropolitan city, Dhanmondi and Gulshan. Here, the deep love for our Bangla language and passionate respect towards all the languages of the world were truly portrayed in a collective manner. These wall paintings were done very successfully with immense enthusiasm and spontaneity and the founder of KrayonMag, Tanziral Dilshad Ditan led the whole festivity with her active participation. Here, the alphabet of Bangla, English, Korean languages and also the languages of our indigenous people were portrayed as calligraphic artistic writing.

In this course of the campaign, on 22 February, at 7:30 pm, a wonderfully lively webinar was held with the participation of readers and writers, especially the ones whose books are published on the occasion of the Ekushe Book Fair this year. Here, Dolon Champa Dutta,  executive,  Krayon mag was the Moderator and the discussion panel included writer and musician Zunayed Evan, Parisa Islam Khan,  Associate Professor, Business Faculty,  Eastern University and Tayeeb Ananto, author and sports reporter and  News presenter, GTV. It is worth mentioning that, in this year’s book fair,  a novel by Tayeed Ananto with the title “Aliza” has been launched. In this webinar, the books by the young,  budding writers were presented in a proper way in front of the readers’ community. The probable steps to be taken to encourage the young and new writers and motivate the new generations to read more books were also effectively discussed here.

In order to present our beloved Bangla language in artistic and calligraphically written form, KrayonMag has taken initiative to hold a one-of-a-kind virtual exhibition in collaboration with EMK Centre gallery, Dhaka. This exhibition on Bangla Calligraphy, Typography, and artistic lettering has started on 19 February and will last until 4 March 2022. The exhibition has been tastefully named after the traditional sacred geometric circular pattern “Mandal” and the Curator of the exhibition is Shihab Rahmania. The artists showcasing their beautiful and unique Bangla Calligraphy, Typography and Lettering here include Gosai Pahlavi, Fawaz Rab, Md. Mujibul Hauque, Sipahi Reza, Anirban Das. Niazuddin Ahmed,Masuma Binte Payel, Samiul Islam, Abu Arsed Limon and others. This is the first time that Bangla Alphabet is being exhibited in Bangladesh as art for using different patterns and colors.

The immense response from all,   especially the artists at the first Bangla calligraphic writing Exhibition has inspired KrayonMag to take initiative to publish a brochure and book based on the selected Bangla Calligraphies that are being displayed. This is indeed a pioneering step to uphold the honor of our Bangla language in this way through celebrating its written form as calligraphic writings. Here the Alphabet of our language is presented not only as writings but also art pieces.
