Md. Fariduddin Ahmed new chairman of UBL

Md. Fariduddin Ahmed, former Managing Director & CEO of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, Exim Bank PLC, Advisor Exim Bank PLC and Consultant (Islamic Banking) of Meghna Bank PLC has been appointed as Independent Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Union Bank PLC. by Bangladesh Bank.

Mr. Farid has long experience in Islamic Banking and Finance. He joined Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC on first of its establishment on 30th March. He entered in banking profession through Bangladesh Bank recruitment committee in the year 1977 and was placed in Sonali Bank PLC. He was associated with the development of systems and procedures of Islamic Banking in Bangladesh. Mr. Farid also worked for establishment of an Islamic Bank in Nigeria named “Jaiz Bank” duly nominated by Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.

Mr. Farid is now associated with many Islamic Banks and Islamic Financial Institutions and Corporate bodies as Chairman/Members of Shariah Supervisory Committee.

He attended in various Training Programs, participated in many Seminars and Conferences at home and abroad and presented Papers on Islamic Banking & Finance. Mr. Farid isthe recipient of Central Shariah Board Award for Islamic Banking for his contribution to Islamic Banking in Bangladesh. Apart from that, he was awarded Nawab Sir Salimullah Gold Medal for his remarkable contribution to the establishment, growth and development of Islamic Banking in Bangladesh. He is a widely travelled man and visited UK, USA, Germany, Witzerland, Franch, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, KSA, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Australia and Macau.
