S Alam Group, one of the top industrial groups in Bangladesh, has signed an agreement of $400 million to set up two more sugar refineries. One will be in Chittagong and the other will be in Dhaka, reads a press release. These projects are set to meet the increasing demand for sugar in the country. The agreement was signed with a renowned engineering consultant and EPC organization. Top officials from both companies were present during the agreement signing. The proposed sugar refinery of Chittagong will be built at Ichanagar in Azimpara union of Karnaphuli Upazila. The other refinery of Dhaka will be built at Ganga Nagar of Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj. These two refineries are expected to be fully operational by 2025.
