Sandocal relaunched in Bangladesh

Sandocal, the calcium supplement brand from Novartis, is once again available in the Bangladesh market.

A scientific seminar was held on May 20 in the capital’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to mark the relaunch of the country’s very first calcium supplement brand containing calcium carbonate.

Multiple eminent healthcare professionals from the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department of BSMMU graced the event with their presence. Prof. Md. Moniruzzaman Khan, Pro VC of BSMMU, and Prof. Dr. Abul Khair Mohammad Salek, Chairman of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department of BSMMU, joined the event, along with Fahmid Wasik Ali, Managing Director of Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited.

The role of calcium supplements in the management of osteoporosis was majorly highlighted during the scientific discussions at the event. Industry experts also appraised the success of Sandocal in this regard. It is notable that Sandocal was the first-ever calcium supplement introduced in Bangladesh by Novartis in 1997. The Swiss pharmaceutical company’s heritage dates back to 1927, when it pioneered the foundation of modern calcium therapy by introducing the first-ever human calcium supplement in the world, setting a precedent for nearly 100 years.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Salek underlined the need for an effective mass response against osteoporosis, stating, “Osteoporosis is a silent killer, and we need to build strong public awareness to prevent this.” Novartis representatives also emphasized their commitment to ensuring access to quality medicines, including Sandocal, for patients in Bangladesh.
