SC orders Envoy Textile to hold EGM to select new MD

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has directed the authorities concerned to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to appoint Managing Director (MD) and Deputy Managing Director (DMD) for the Envoy Textiles Limited.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order after hearing an appeal petition filed by Abdus Salam Murshedy and others against a High Court order that appointed Tanvir Ahmed, one of the directors of the company, as Managing Director.

Additional Attorney General Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury who appeared in the court hearing representing Murshedy confirmed it.

The legal saga began in June 2022 when Murshedy contested a potential cessation of his position as Managing Director by the board committee.

Subsequently, the High Court appointed Tanvir Ahmed as the new Managing Director. In response, Murshedy challenged this appointment, filing an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

In accordance with the order from the Appellate Division, Abdus Salam Murshedy is also set to relinquish his role as the managing director of Envoy Textiles Limited. This directive stems from a decision handed down by the High Court on March 9, 2023.
