Security measures taken for Eid-ul-Azha in Khulna

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has taken stringent security measures for the peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Azha.

The measures were taken at a view-exchange meeting at the KMP headquarters on Sunday afternoon with KMP Commissioner Md. Mozammel Haque in the chair.

KMP Commissioner Md. Mozammel Haque said we’ve already deployed mobile teams to monitor the kitchen markets to keep the prices for essential kitchen commodities stable and dishonest businessmen involved in illegally storing-syndicate ahead of Eid-ul-Azha will have to face the music.

The KMP chief requested all the businessmen to sell the essential commodities following the government listed price. To make it possible, both wholesalers and retailers have to work unitedly.

Setting up of makeshift cattle markets has been prohibited except in the approved place by the Khulna City Corporation (KCC).

The police will ensure security for all the buyers and sellers at the Zoragate cattle market and will not allow anyone to disturb traffic movement due to keeping cattle outside the market, he said, adding that all the shopping malls, kitchen markets and other shops must maintain fire safety by keeping sufficient fire extinguishers.

Special attention would be given to securing areas including banks, financial organisations and in and around the cattle market.

The KMP commissioner directed his officials to identify and take actions against muggers, pickpockets, and doping gangs at the cattle markets and rawhide selling center as well as rawhide smugglers.

Besides, as part of other security measures, KMP would set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, spy sunglasses, and counterfeit currency (Taka) detected machines, control rooms and watchtowers at the cattle markets.

Meanwhile, foolproof security measures have been ensured by the district police to keep law and order situation under control in and around all cattle markets in nine upazilas and two pourashavas in Khulna district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Police will also patrol all roads and highways to check extortion, snatching, pick-pocketing, and harassment of the cattle traders and buyers, he said.

Among others, Additional Police Commissioner Mr. Sardar Rakibul Islam, Deputy Police Commissioner Mollah Jahangir Hossain, Deputy Police Commissioner-Headquarters Mohammad Anwar Hossain, were present.
