USAID Mission Director meets with BGMEA President

Reed Aeschliman, the newly appointed Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Bangladesh, paid a courtesy visit to Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on October 15, a press release said on Tuesday.

The meeting, held at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka, was also attended by Alena Tansey, USAID, DRG Office Director; Belien Tadesse, USAID, PRO Office Director; Matthew Beh, First Secretary, Political/Labor, U.S. Embassy Dhaka; Sazzad Kamal, USAID, Project Management Specialist; and Emelda Mullick, USAID, Project Management Specialist.

Discussions in the meeting revolved around identifying collaborative opportunities to further develop the readymade garment industry in Bangladesh. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing the well-being of workers in the sector.

Faruque Hassan took the opportunity to provide an overview of Bangladesh’s thriving garment industry, with a special emphasis on the substantial progress made in workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and the overall welfare of workers.

He also presented insights into the Sustainability Strategic Vision 2030, a comprehensive plan to ensure the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.

President Faruque Hassan further highlighted the commendable practices adopted by garment factories in the realms of social responsibility, economic development, and the welfare of workers.

Both sides expressed willingness to collaborate on advancing the RMG industry and ensuring the well-being of its workforce.
