Initially, no one took it seriously as stars are often into hype but in the end her press conference did the trick and it became a public affair. Her tears and story, and allegations that the police had not accepted her complaint which she wished to file against an alleged rapist etc did the rest. The person accused of attempted rape was not an ordinary foot walker but a rich gent with many connections. He was the ex- President of the Uttara Club and a founding member of the Dhaka Boat Club which by the way was presided over by the IG of Police. That made matters more complicated.
Pori Moni said that she had tried to contact the IG but the call was not answered. The police has of course denied it. The media did its due and the news was flashed everywhere. However what really may have made it all happen was her public plea to the PM whom she addressed as “mother” to help her.
Most speculation was that this would be lost like so many other ones including the one involving the land the recent case of the Bashundhara scion which went missing after 3 days. But in this case, it’s the opposite and the police acted almost immediately and have taken the accused and his accomplices along with the proverbial liquor bottles and this time with a few “women” who was dubbed as “mistresses”.
While we are all praises for the police at such prompt action, the recent acts seem to be in conflict with their earlier position where they sort of wished away her complaints. One is not sure what it is but one is surely lucky if such kindness descends on ordinary people once in a while when the police take such matters seriously.
Meanwhile, the accused has told the media that the accuser was drunk, came in with a crowd who demanded more liquor and caused mayhem inside the club. That Pori Moni was sent to the hospital by the police had earlier been duly reported but now the police is more focused on the accused. One is not sure what will happen as the stories on both sides are being doubted by many but for the moment things look brighter for the film star.
Having said that this is an excellent display of sleaze culture we are now being exposed to that now prevails in Dhaka’s money and glamour class. These are now so common that people have become very used to them. However it was handled very well by the authorities and swift action has put all sorts of rumors to rest. However public speculation is on.
Meanwhile , Pori Moni has expressed satisfaction and thanked the police for quick action, the alleged accused has been expelled from the Boat Club by the IG himself and things are beginning to return to normal. So till the next incident arrives there will be waiting but meanwhile Shakib’s wickets have gone missing.
