Why we need to learn literature

To fight and eliminate dark elements, society needs to be built based on knowledge. Only educationally enlightened members of the society can better work to drive away all supervisions, religious extremism, radicalism and so on. The whole world is now reeling from the reign of terror and anarchies. We have to be enlightened with knowledge to defeat these ominous forces. For this very reason, there is no alternative to getting involved in literary pursuit. The civilisation flourishes on human creativity, and language plays the main medium of flourishing that creativity.

Thus, literature plays a key role in the evolution of society and civilisation. In fact, the practice of literature develops good sense in the human race, unveiling their immense prospect and encouraging them to build a society principled with logic. It is recognised universally that the more a society is enriched with literature the more it is civilised.

These progressive views should characterise every member of our society. One should truly perceive that literature redefines human characteristics, modifies behaviour, refines outlook, broadens one’s mind and enables one to explore the different branches of knowledge which ultimately helps one get rid of inner conflicts and narrowness of mind. The learning of literature can help us fight fundamentalism and lead us to the path of liberalism.

It is beyond question that literature is important in our everyday life because it connects individuals with larger truths and ideas in a society. Literature creates a pathway for people to record their thoughts and experiences in a way which is accessible to others. It just makes us a better person, more humble, sensitive and considerate towards others, patient and a good listener to other voices as well.

It is through reading great literary and poetic works that one understands life. They help a person take a closer look at the different facets of living. In many ways, literature, in its different forms, can change one’s perspective towards living. Literature has had a major impact on the development of society. It has shaped civilisations, changed political systems and exposed injustice over the ages. Literature gives us a detailed preview of human experiences, allowing us to connect on basic levels of desire and emotion.

Thus, the importance of literature, as one needs to understand, is beyond expression. It is not rhetoric but reality that the teachings of literature can drive away evil elements from our society. Let the practice of literature permeate among us in a great ambience.
