The Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka (RCMD) has provided new school uniforms and distributed sewing machine to 200 young students from ‘Mirpur Free Primary School’ in Pallabi, Mirpur on 23 September 2023, a press release said on Sunday.
Shakila Akhter Mimi, President of Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka, Former President Shrabani Sarkar, and executive committee member Dr. Afsana Chowdhury handed over the school uniforms to the students.
Kumkum, a second-grade student of Mirpur Duaripara, who received the school dress, said, “It feels amazing to get the school dress as a present. I can now wear this new outfit to school going forward.”
Marium Akhtar, a student in the same class said, “I feel delighted to have such a new dress. I have three brothers who all have received new dresses”
Nasima Akhtar, a student in the fifth grade, expressed her excitement at getting a new dress and said, “Earlier, I didn’t want to come to school because I didn’t have good clothes. Now I will get a new dress and come to school regularly.”
Roni- a fourth grader said, “Everyone would look nice wearing the same dress in the same color. Previously, students used to come wearing different dresses with different colors. Now they would have dressed up as the same color,”
Not only Kumkum or Roni but about 200 students had various expressions on their faces.
Shakila Akhter Mimi, president and organizer of The Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka, said, “Rotary activities are going on in 118 countries all over the world. We have been running our activities since 2012. There are about 500 Rotary Clubs in Bangladesh.
Sakila Akhter Mimi also said, “We provide all kinds of support to the four schools of Dhaka including Banani, Mirpur, Manikganj, and Narsingdi. Rotaract Club of Metropolitan Dhaka and Interact Club of Metropolitan Dhaka supported this event.”
