2nd Intl Language League begins at NSU

Bakeman’s Second International Language League has been organized by the Department of English and Modern Languages. The League has been sponsored by Bakeman’s, a premium biscuit brand of Akij Baker’s Limited.

The Language League was inaugurated through a news conference at the Syndicate Hall of the North South University in the capital recently.

Language League is Bangladesh’s most prominent language-based Olympiad. More than 50,000 students across Bangladesh will take part in this language Olympiad which will remain open to the students from schools, colleges and universities. Students’ proficiency in five languages- Bengali, English, Chinese, French, and German- will be tested in this competition, divided into four sections based on age, said a press release.

Md. Shafiqul Islam Tushar, Chief Marketing Officer, Akij Baker’s Limited, said, “Initiatives like the International Language League would further improve Bangladesh’s knowledge base, cultural and other communication skill with the rest of the world.

“As a nation, we value the practice of our mother language first, and we try to take the best from different languages and cultures all over the world as of globalization, which we will see reflected in the international Language League. We are proud to have Bakeman’s participation with such a an event, “he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of North South University, said, “The University is proud to host Bakeman’s Second International Language League, the biggest ever language competition in Bangladesh, on the occasion of golden jubilee of Victory Day.” “”We should value the practice of our mother tongue as a nation”, he pointed out. 

Regarding the registration process for the Language League, Mehedi Hasan, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English and Modern Languages, informed that the registration that began  from December 19, 2021, will continue till  January 15, 2022. The language league will remain open to all local and international participants.

He further said that this competition would be held in 32 selected venues of Bangladesh. There will be campaigns at different venue across the country. The winners of the divisional qualifying round will have the opportunity to participate in the semi-finals and finals at North South University (NSU), he added.

Dr. AQM Rahman Bhuiyan, Chairman, Department of English and Modern Languages, informed that the students will have to register through www.languageleague.info. Students of DEML, Officials of NSU, and Akij Baker’s Limited were also present at the Press Conference.
