Bangladesh Corner’ inaugurates at Daffodil International University

Daffodil International University (DIU) and its students have played a leading role in fulfilling the dream of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to build a new Bangladesh without discrimination. Not only that, but students also have a glorious role in every movement and struggle in Bangladesh from 1947 to 2024. To uphold and preserve the documents, signature events of all students’ movements and to make their glorious contribution unforgettable, ‘Bangladesh Corner’ has been inaugurated at Daffodil International University for the first time in Bangladesh. On August 17, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University and Chairman of Association of Private Universities of Banglagladesh officially inaugurated this ‘Bangladesh Corner’ in the central library of the university. Professor Dr. SM Mahabub ul Haque Majumdar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, along with teachers and top officials of the university were present during inauguration the corner.

The aim of establishing ‘Bangladesh Corner’ is to preserve the documents, signature events and history of all students’ movements and struggles of Bangladesh starting from 1947 to 2024 and that will be updated constantly. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university regarding the setup of “Bangladesh Corner” in the university said, since 1947, students have always had an important contribution behind every movement and change in Bangladesh.

If there was no language movement in 952, we would not be able to speak this Bengali language today. Similarly, in 1971, students took part in the liberation war spontaneously, because they played a leading role in the 1969 mass uprising. Then the students played a role in removing the dictatorial misrule of 1990. Students played a leading role in anti-VAT movement in 2015, Anti-Quota Movement in 2018 and lastly in 2024 Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. As a result of which a successful popular uprising was organized, the country was freed from the misrule of the fallen autocracy. We are dreaming of a new corruption discrimination free democratic Bangladesh.

Books, research, religious material, pictures, paper cuttings, videos, martyrs and injured information on each movement will be recorded in Bangladesh Corner. Through the information resources stored and displayed in the Bangladesh Corner, faculty-students, officials and researchers from within and outside the university will play an important role in providing accurate information about the history of the student movement in Bangladesh and the present generation.
