DIU 2023 Declaration: Advancing Local and Regional Media for a Sustainable Future” is stressed at the 8th CJEN Bangladesh Networking Conference 2023

The Draft Policy on DIU 2023 Declaration: Advancing Local and Regional Media for a Sustainable Future and Introduction of Next Conference was presented on the second day (29th October, 2023) of the 8th CJEN Bangladesh Networking Conference, jointly organized by the Department of Journalism, Media & Communication at Daffodil International University and DW Akademie, took place at Daffodil International University on 28th and 29th October, 2023.

During the DIU 2023 Declaration session, Professor Dr. Golam Rahman, Chief Adviser of Daffodil International Universitywas present as the chair while Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Associate Professor of  BegumRoyeka University, Rangpur, was present as the Co-Chair.The session was also attended by Associate Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Kabil Khan, Convener of the conference and Mr. Aftab Hossain, Co-convener of the conference & Head, Department of Journalism, Media and Communication, DIU.

Mr. Faruque Ahmed, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcastingwas present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the conference. He said that, “It’s imperative for newspapers and media outlets to enhance their vigilance and online presence. I believe, the government will spare no effort to bring them to fruition. It necessitates a collective commitment from all stakeholders.”

Amid the political unrest in the country, a multitude of esteemed guests took part in the 8th CJEN Bangladesh Networking Conference 2023 through the online platform on the second day of the CJEN Bangladesh Networking Conference 2023.  A Plenary Session on Quality Journalism and Revenue: Engaging the Next Generation in Journalism Education and the Profession was moderated by Mr. Kazi M. Anisul Islam, Assistant Professor and Chairman, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Comilla University. One of the participants, Mr. A B M Jabed Sultan Pias, Chief Digital Business Officer, ProthomAlo, stated “ProthomAlo began generating revenue online within the country. It’s high time for all newspapers to establish their online presence. They should utilize platforms like YouTube and Facebook for marketing purposes and place a strong emphasis on tracking the revenue generated from their websites”.

On the first day of the conference (28th October 2023), the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Shahed Mohammad Ali, Editor of Daily KalerKantho highlighted the struggling period of local online news portals due to insufficient advertising in his presentation. Afterward, two plenary sessions and one stakeholders’ workshop titled “Understanding the Landscape of Local and Regional Media”, and “Exploring Innovative Business Models for Bangladeshi Local Media” were conducted. Moreover, a workshop about social media storytelling was executed for journalism students all over the country.

In the opening session of the first day, the Ms. Ute Eckertz, Representative, German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development was present as the chief guest while Professor Dr. M.Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University presided over the program.  DIU. Ms. PriyaEsselborn, Program Director (Bangladesh) at DW Akademie, was present as the special guest who presented on behalf of DW Akademie.The conference was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Md. Abdul Kabil Khan, Convener of the 8th CJEN Bangladesh Networking Conference.
