DIU, ABSCWS jointly hold workshop tomorrow

Daffodil International University (DIU) and All Bangladesh Senior Citizen Welfare Society (ABSCWS) are jointly going to organize a  a day-long workshop on ‘What to do to establish the welfare and dignity of the growing senior citizens’  on December 8, 2023 at auditorium 71 of Daffodil Plaza, Sobhan Bagh, Dhanmondi in the capital, a press release said on Thursday.

Sheikh Kabir Hossain, president of Association of Private Universities Bangladesh (APUB) will inaugurate the day-long workshop as the chief guest at 9-30 am. All Bangladesh Senior Citizen Welfare Society Chairman Justice Md. Momtazuddin Ahmed will be present as a special guest in the program. Daffodil International University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman will preside over the event.

Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hasan will grace the closing ceremony as the chief guest at 3 pm. The founder and chairman of Daffodil International University Dr. Md. Sabur Khan will deliver the welcome speech at the closing ceremony. Chairman of Forum for the Rights of the Elderly Bangladesh Major General Jiban Kanai Das (retd.) will present the Keynote paper on the workshop. Engr. Md. Fazlul Haque. Secretary General of All Bangladesh Senior Citizen Welfare Society will spoke on the occasion.

The seniors participating in the day-long workshop will be divided into 4 groups and discuss the following 4 topics.

Group-1: “Responsibilities of Government and Society to meet or Facilitate Basic Health Care needs of Elderly”. International nuclear scientist Professor Dr. M Shamser Ali will be the chairperson in this session.

Group-II: “Need to involve retired skilled manpower in national development”. Former army chief Lt. J. M. Harun-or-Rashid (retd) will be the chairperson in this session.

Group-3: “Necessity of joint efforts of old and young in national development”. Former secretary Professor Dr. Zahurul Karim will be the chairperson in this session.

Group-4: “Prompt implementation of the National Elderly Policy 2013 enacted by the government to establish the welfare and dignity of the elderly population / formulation of the Senior Citizen Act” will be chaired by Advocate Manzil Morshed, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).

Besides, the results of the research and survey conducted on inter-generational thoughts and opinions about the elderly will be published in this session.
