In a jubilant atmosphere of nostalgia and achievement, Daffodil International University (DIU) recently commemorated a significant milestone: the 20th anniversary of its esteemed English Department, a press release said on Monday. This remarkable journey of academic excellence and literary exploration was celebrated in a grand event that brought together renowned actress Aupee Karim and distinguished academician Manmay Zafar, showcasing the department’s profound impact on both the arts and academia.
The celebration was graced by the presence of Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. S M MahabubUl- Haque Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean, Academic Affairs of Daffodil International University, Aupee Karim, a name synonymous with class, talent, and versatility in the entertainment industry. The celebration was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Liza Sharmin, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, of the university.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan delivered a valuable speech on integrating the latest technologies, like Artificial intelligence, into English teaching and learning. He emphasized that the teachers of the department must learn and apply modern technologies in their teaching so that they can make their students ready for today’s world.
In discussion with the students, Aupee talked about the importance of study, extracurricular activities, and the responsibilities of students toward their parents. She was mesmerized by the spectacular dance performance of one of the alumni of the English department, Kajol, and hugged her right after the performance.
Another distinguished guest at the event was Manmay Zafar, an associate professor of English at Jahangirnagar University and a respected academician and prominent figure in literary and educational circles. He shared his views on different aspects of academia with the students. Current and former students of the department shared their views and ideas about the department. One of the alumni, Md. Ashiqur Rahman Rajib, who has become a BCS Cadre (Information), told the juniors about his journey and how the department inspired him to achieve his dream.
After a stunning cultural show and cosplay, the audience enjoyed an electrifying concert by one of the country’s leading youth bands, Metrolife. They paid tribute to the legendary Bangla band ‘Mohiner Ghoraguli’ by playing their famous songs ‘Prithibita Naki’ and ‘BhaloLage’. Dr. EhatashamUl Hoque Eiten and his team, including Zahin Zakaria, Maniruzzaman Maruf, Arinee Anjum, Raja, Nayem, and others, led the show.
