DIU holds final round of English Olympiad

The final Round and the prize giving ceremony of the English Olympiad Bangladesh 2022 was held on October 07 at Daffodil Smart City at Ashulia, Dhaka under the auspices of the Department of English of Daffodil International University, a press release said.

English Olympiad Bangladesh 2022 was organized by the department for the third time with the motto “Show your English talents, Go for greater challenge” to make our youth as competent global citizens to take lead in international activities.

The competition attracted students of class 9 to 12 (including “O” and “A” level) from all over the country and a total number of 977 students registered themselves for the event which was divided into two categories: Senior Category (college level) and Junior Category (school level). After the online preliminary Selection Round, 499 participants were selected and called on for the Theater Round, which focused on English reading and writing skills, and then 40 chosen participants from both categories competed in the Final Round by presenting their extemporaneous speeches on current generic topics.

Convener, Ms. Nahid Kaiser, Department of English, DIU announced the names of the champions. From the Junior Category Shaherid Younus from Milestone School and College became champion, Faria Tasnim from Milestone College became 1st runner-up and Irfan Khan Joy  from Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School became 2nd runner-up,

In the senior category Mussarat Tasmia Sneha from Feni Girls Cadet College became champion, Miftahul Islam Rajya from Faujdarhat Cadet College became the 1st runner-up and Mohammad Adnan from Presedency International School became the 2nd runner-up.

Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, Professor of English Department of the University of Dhaka, was present as the chief guest, while chief patron of the event and chairman of the board of trustees of DIU, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, was present as the guest of honor. Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahaman, VC of DIU, was present as the special guest.
