DIU hosts day-long symposium on literature

Daffodil International University (DIU) has organized a day-long symposium titled “Modernism/ Post-modernism: Truth/Post-Truth in Language and Literature” at Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, a press release said Sunday.

The English department of DIU organized the symposium on August 27, 2022 with the participation of teachers and students from around 7 universities of the country.

Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman VC, DIU, inaugurated the symposium as the chief guest while Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbubul Ul Haque Majumder, Pro VC. Prof. AMM Hamidur Rahman, dean, FHSS were present as the special guests.

Dr. Mohammed Shamsul Hoque Professor, department of English, DIU, and Convener of the Symposium introduced the event in brief. Dr. Liza Sharmin, head and associate professor of department of English, DIU delivered the welcome address in the symposium.

The keynote speech for the language segment was delivered by Dr. M. Shahidullah, professor and chairperson, department of English, Green University and the session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Binoy Barman, English department, DIU.

The keynote speech was followed by a vibrant panel discussion moderated by Md. Ariful Islam Laskar, assistant professor, department of English, DIU. Dr. Mohammad Azam, professor, department of Bangla, University of Dhaka, Dr. Nazia Manzoor, assistant professor, department of English, North South University,  Shakhwat Hossain, senior lecturer, department of English, North South University, Md. Shamim Mandal, faculty, department of English, Green University participated as a discussant.

Kaiser Haq, poet, and professor of ULAB presented his keynote speech in another session. The symposium became an animated platform of teachers, researchers, and students from seven universities across Bangladesh. The event came to an end with the concluding remarks from the Convener, Dr. Mohammed Shamsul Hoque, professor, department of English, DIU. The event was anchored by Tahsina Yasmin, associate professor of English and additional director of HRDI.
