With the motto “Show your English talents, Go for greater challenge” the Department of English of Daffodil International University organized the English Olympiad Bangladesh 202, said a press release.
The competition attracted students of classes 9 to 12 from all over the country and a total number of 948 students registered themselves for the event which is divided into two categories: Senior Category (College Level) and Junior Category (School Level). The closing ceremony of the competition was held August 28 through the Virtual Gate online platform. Notre Dame College student Iftehaz Yasir Iftee became the champion in the senior category and RAJUK Uttara Model College student Tasfia Nafi became the champion in the junior category.
On the other hand, Shreya Haldar from Feni Girls Cadet College became the first runner up in the senior category and Wasfia Lubaba Wazed from Feni Girls Cadet College became the first runner up in the junior category.
Besides, Samin Abrar from Pabna Cadet College became the second runner up in the senior category and Tartil Ahmed Arnab from Rangpur Cadet College became the second runner up in the junior category.
As a prize, the champion will get Tk. 30,000 and a certificate and the first runners-up will get Tk. 20,000 and a certificate and the second runner-up will get Tk. 20,000 and a certificate.
It may be mentioned that 948 students from all over the country in senior and junior categories participated in the English Olympiad. From there, 196 students pass the selection round through the selection round. From there 20 students get a chance to take part in the final round.
Dr. Fakrul Alam, Professor of University Grants Commission and Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty of Dhaka University was present as the chief guest in the closing ceremony. Captain Noor-e Alam, Principal of Mirzapur Cadet College was present as the special guest and Daffodil International University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M Lutfar Rahman was present as the guest of honor.
Presided over by Ms. Liza Sharmin, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, DIU the programme also addressed by Prof. AMM Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tahsina Yasmin, Associate Professor, Department of English, Mostafizur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Dipti Rahman, Lecturer.
