For the first time in Bangladesh, a group of final year research students under the supervision of Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubul Haque of Textile Engineering Department of Daffodil University developed a sustainable jacket as part of their thesis, a press release said on Thursday. It may be mentioned that a jacket usually consists of three layers. Between the inner and outer layers are important layers known as padding, quilting, insulating layers. The whole world is now expecting sustainable, eco-friendly and sustainable products. There are many artificial fabrics and synthetic materials used in the middle layer of the jackets we use, which pose a serious threat to the environment.
In this special jacket invented, the synthetic non-degradable materials of the middle layer are replaced by jute fabric. This is a solution that is not only environmentally friendly but also reduces the production cost of the jacket. Besides, if this jute jacket is exported, the demand and price of jute will increase. However, using jute fabric in jackets requires many changes in its properties. This research is extensively ongoing and further research will be conducted to improve its quality as required by comparison with international standards.
The jacket was designed and wearing by S. M. Nahid Parvez Naeem a student of the Textile Engineering Department, he shared his experience that the jacket was surprisingly fashionable and comfortable and he was feeling warm.
The research was led by Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubul Haque. Mir Mohib, ex-student of textile department and jacket specialist Md Julhas Khan played an important role in innovate the special type of Jacket. Besides, Md. Tariqul Islam, Md. Saiful Islam, Md. Rafiul Islam, S. M. Nahid Parvez Naeem, Bapan Chandra Poddar, Md Saharuzzaman Khan Saqib, Wahid Miah, Md Ziaur Rahman Johnny, Sabuj Howladar were directly connected with the research.
