JICA, NSU hold final reporting ceremony

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has collaborated with the University of Miyazaki and North South University (NSU) to organize the Final Reporting Ceremony of the B-JET and B-MEET Programs.

The event celebrated and highlighted the critical roles of these two programs in preparing skilled Bangladeshi ICT students and professionals with Japanese language and business skills, thereby strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations. The ceremony took place on December 17, 2024, at Syndicate Hall, North South University.

The B-JET program (Bangladesh-Japan ICT Engineers’ Training Program), was launched in 2017 under JICA’s technical cooperation project with Bangladesh Computer Council. The program offers eight months of comprehensive training to young Bangladeshi ICT engineers in Japanese language, culture, and business etiquette. It equips them with the skills needed to excel in Japan’s competitive ICT sector. To date, over 240 B-JET graduates have successfully started their careers in Japan, contributing to alleviating the country’s shortage of ICT engineers.

Meanwhile, the B-MEET program (Bangladesh-Miyazaki ICT Engineers Educational Training Project) started in 2022 as JICA’s technical cooperation project. It provides one-month classes on Japanese language, culture, and business etiquette to university students and professionals aspiring to work with Japanese ICT companies in the future. Nearly 300 individuals have completed the program to date, reflecting its growing impact.

The Final Reporting Ceremony marked the completion of the current phase of these two programs, run by the University of Miyazaki and North South University. Regarding the ceremony, Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh, commented, “The B-JET and B-MEET program embodies the everlasting partnership between Bangladesh and Japan. By fostering human resources and deepening cultural ties, these initiatives empower Bangladeshi ICT engineers and contribute to the technological growth of Japan. We feel proud to witness how these programs shape global talent and promote shared prosperity.”

The event was attended by H.E. Iwama Kiminori, Ambassador of Embassy of Japan; Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative, JICA Bangladesh Office; Nagayama Hidenari, Vice Mayor, Miyazaki City; Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, North South University, Yoshinari Yasue, Vice President, University of Miyazaki, and other esteemed guests.

These two programs and their diverse implementing partners, collectively known as the ‘Miyazaki-Bangladesh Model,’ received JICA’s International Cooperation Award this year for its various accomplishments in promoting human resource development in both Bangladesh and Japan.
