NSU celebrated Int’l day of Mathematics

North South University celebrated the International Day of Mathematics 2023 on the university campus on Monday.

The university’s mathematics and physics department organised the event.

The day-long event began with a rally led by NSU pro-vice-chancellor M Ismail Hossain, and mathematics and physics department chairman Professor Mohammad Sahadet Hossain, and other faculty members.

A math contest was arranged for the university students.

A seminar emphasising the significance of International Mathematics Day featured distinguished guests, including NSU vice-chancellor professor Atiqul Islam, pro-vice-chancellor M Ismail Hossain, and dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences Professor Javed Bari.

Professor Mohammad Sahadet Hossain delivered the welcomed speech, while invited speaker Professor Md Haider Ali Biswas from Khulna University and special speaker NSU mathematics and physics department Professor Md Asad Uz Zaman delivered keynote speeches.

Professor Ismail Hossain and Professor Javed Bari also addressed the programme.

During the seminar, Professor Atiqul Islam emphasised the importance of making mathematical education accessible to everyone, in line with this year’s IDM theme — Mathematics for Everyone.

The seminar concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, a prize distribution programme and a cultural function.

Mathematics and physics department Professor Md Mamun Molla offered a vote of thanks.

The International Day of Mathematics, declared by UNESCO in 2019, promotes the importance of mathematics for students and the general people.
