NSU holds public lecture of Shyamal Chowdhury

The Department of Economics, School of Business & Economics (SBE), of North South University (NSU) organized a public lecture of Professor Shyamal Chowdhury of the School of Economics at the University of Sydney at NSU campus on November 13, 2022, a press release said Tuesday.

NSU Young Economists’ Forum (YEF), an NSU student club, was the youth engagement partner of the event.

In a thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Chowdhury talked about the formation of specific preferences in children: risk-taking, patience, and pro-sociality (a combination of selfishness, spitefulness, altruism, and egalitarianism).

Dr. Chowdhury’s findings suggest that the formation of a child’s preference is closely connected to the preference of both the parents and socially desirable preferences can be developed through careful interventions at an early age. The findings of this study can facilitate the design and implementation of programs to promote positive preferences amongst children.

Dr. Md. Ismail Hossain, Pro-VC, NSU; Dr. Helal Ahammad, dean, School of Business & Economics, NSU; Dr. Asad Karim Khan Priyo, chair, Department of Economics, NSU; Dr. Tapas Kumar Paul, faculty advisor of NSU YEF were also present.
