The Office of Research (OR-NSU), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Biosafety and Biosecurity Society (BBBS) and the North South University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), organized a comprehensive two-day Biosafety and Biosecurity Workshop from June 2 to June 3, a press release said on Monday.
The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members and lab officers from the School of Health and Life Sciences. Esteemed experts, including Dr. Asadulghani, Head of Biosafety at icddr,b and Chairman of BBBS, served as principal trainers alongside Dr. Md. Rakibul Islam, General Secretary of BBBS and a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka.
Under the guidance and logistical support provided by Prof. Dr. Nayeema Bulbul, Chair of NSU IBC, and Dr. Md. Fakruddin, NSU Institutional Biosafety Officer, the workshop received sponsorship from the Office of Research (OR-NSU). The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice Chancellor of NSU, who delivered remarks as the Chief Guest, and Dr. RubhanaRaqib, Senior Scientist (Emeritus) of icddr,b Infectious Diseases Division, who graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Dr. Chandan K. Roy, President of BBBS, and Dr. HafizurRahman, Treasurer of BBBS, both esteemed members of the BBBS Executive Committee, also attended the ceremony. Additionally, members of the NSU IBC were present to show their support.
During the closing session, Prof. Dr. Norman K. Swazo, Director of OR-NSU, delivered a warm welcome address and shared insightful remarks as the Chief Guest. Dr. Hasan Reza, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, was the Special Guest for the closing ceremony, emphasizing the significance of biosafety and biosecurity in the field. Dr. Nayeema Bulbul concluded the workshop by expressing her gratitude in the vote of thanks.
