NSU signs MoU with Prothom Alo

North South University (NSU) and the esteemed Bangla newspaper, Prothom Alo, have formalized a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), press release said Monday.

This significant agreement, which aims to bolster the relationship between academia and media, was officially signed at the Prothom Alo Headquarters in Dhaka.

The MOU was signed by Professor Atiqul Islam, representing North South University, and Matiur Rahman, the Editor of Prothom Alo. This collaborative initiative will launch a unique scholarship program, offering financial support to two meritorious students, one in the Spring Semester and another in the Summer Semester of 2024. These scholarships are dedicated to students securing top positions in their bid for admission into the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Media, Communication, and Journalism (BSS in MCJ) at NSU.

The scholarship will cover the four-year undergraduate degree, with both NSU and Prothom Alo contributing equally to the cost, marking a 50:50 partnership in this educational endeavor.

Professor Atiqul Islam expressed his gratitude to Prothom Alo, highlighting the initiative as a historic collaboration that bridges the gap between academic learning and practical experience in journalism. In response, Prothom Alo’s Matiur Rahman conveyed his high hopes for NSU’s role in providing world-class education in journalism, emphasizing the importance of establishing trust in the field.

The signing ceremony was attended by faculties of the Department of Political Science and Sociology, which included, among others, Dr. Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Chair, Department of Political Science and Sociology, and Dr. Md. Harisur Rahman, Coordinator of MCJ Program. Prothom Alo’s Joint Editor Sohrab Hassan, Associate Editor Anisul Hoque, Executive Editor Sajjad Sharif, Merina Yasmin of Prothoma, Feature Editor Shumona Sharmin, and senior journalists were present during the signing ceremony.
