The opening ceremony of the B-JET Program in collaboration with North South University (NSU) was held on 3rd October 2021 at 9 am. The program took place online via the Zoom platform. Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Keisuke Murakami, Vice President (International Relations) of The University of Miyazaki, also joined the ceremony from Japan as theSpecial Guest. The B-JET training program was first initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed among Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), North South University (NSU), and The University of Miyazaki (UoM) on 24th February 2021. It aims to support the capacity development of Bangladeshi ICT engineers and future ICT engineers who have the potential to create business networks between Japan and Bangladesh.
Prof. Keisuke Murakami inaugurated the ceremony by delivering the inauguration speech. His speech was followed by the Honorable Guest Mr. Kenichi Wajima, Unit Director of Globalgeeks Inc. (BJIT Group). Prof. Keisuke Murakami expressed his hopes about this program stating that “I sincerely hope that the B-JET program starting here today will help the employment sector of both countries, especially the IT sector in Japan.” Ms. Sayuri Ogino, Representative Director of B&M, and Mr. FumikatsuHonma, Managing Director of ShinkoshuppanshaKeirinkan Co., Ltd, also delivered attended the program as Guest Speakers. They congratulated all the organizations associated with the program.
FumikatsuHonma addressed the issues of poverty, lack of education, and depression among the young generation in his speech. He said that “Japan has predicted that there will be a shortage of workforce in IT sector in the near future.” After a brief introduction of all the trainees of the B-JET program, Professor Atiqul Islam delivered the closing remarks. He talked about the program’s theme along with the culture of Japan and the job opportunities they offer.
He stated that “It (B-JET program) will not only enhance employment and friendship but also bring happiness to the people of Japan and Bangladesh.” Prof. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and Prof. Mohammad Khasro Miah, Director of CPC, were also present in the program from North South University. All the guests and attendees posed for a photo session at the end of this successful ceremony. The training program kicked off right after the inauguration ceremony.
The Career and Placement Center (CPC) of NSU has been leading the project on behalf of NSU from the beginning under the leadership of Prof. Mohammad Khasro Miah, Director of CPC. Being the department in charge of career, internship, and job placements, CPC of North South University is always working on creating a bridge between the students and the corporate world. The MoU signed among BCC, NSU and UoM has added another feather on their crown of success. Every year at least 80 students will get chances to enroll in this program.
The first five months of the training module will be held at NSU, and the second three months of advance training will be held in Japan. It is estimated that by 2030, japan will witness a shortage of 5,90,000 ICT engineers in the Japanese IT sector, whereas Bangladesh has resourceful ICT engineers but fewer job opportunities. Completing this training program will open up enormous job opportunities for our engineering students that will benefit the employment sector of Japan and Bangladesh.
