SUB holds daylong workshop on Fact-Checking

Sate University of Bangladesh (SUB) held a daylong workshop titiled ‘ Knowldhe Sharing Session on Fact Checking’ at its Bijoy Campus on 11th June 2022.

Department of Journalism Communication and Media Studies (JCMS) of the university and CCD Bangladesh jointly organized the programme in the cooperation of Intern news and the programme was funded by European Union.

The workshop was organized with the objective of how to present objective news by avoiding the flow of false or fabricated information.

Sayed Istiaque Reza, chief news editor and CEO of Global Tv was present as chief guest at the programme. The workshop was presided over by Md Shamsul Islam, head of JCMS department.

Assistant professor of the department, Nasrin Akhter, and lecturer, Md. Imrul Bashar, conducted the whole programme as trainer.

A total of 20 students participated in this two-phase workshop.

In this day-long workshop, the background and reality of news verification, types of data, ethics, introduction of fact checking tools, identification of fake news etc. were discussed.

 Hands-on training was also provided on critical topics like image and video verification technology, Google Advanced Search and Geo-location verification.
