UBL launches AwareWave school campaign

To commemorate World Environment Day 2024, Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) launched ‘AwareWave’ under its employee volunteering platform, Proyash, in collaboration with Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) and Sunsilk, on 2 June 2024. This initiative aims to educate and empower the youth on the urgent need to combat plastic pollution, by creating a wave of awareness. The campaign is set to engage approximately 1000 students across 10 schools in Dhaka and Chattogram from 2 to 6 June 2024.

The kick-off event took place at Government Jamila Ainul Ananda School and College, Dhaka, where Unilever Bangladesh volunteers and YPSA representatives delivered a compelling presentation on the impacts of plastic pollution and the critical role that the youth can play in mitigating it. The educational impact of the campaign was amplified by an interactive quiz competition. Each correct answer was rewarded not just with applause but with a plant, symbolising a commitment to nurturing a greener future.

The campaign will continue its journey in Dhaka, visiting Shere Bangla Nagar Government Girls High School, Ganabhaban Government High School, Agargaon Adorsho High School, and Shere Bangla Nagar Government Boys High School. In Chattogram, the team will engage students at Pahar Tali Girls High School and College, Wireless Jhau Tala Colony High School, Fathehabad City Corporation High School and College, Gulzar Begum City Corporation Girls School, and Postarpar Asma Khatun City Corporation Girls High School starting from 3 June.

One passionate employee volunteer shared, “This has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. At Unilever, our goal is to make sustainable living commonplace. Plastic pollution is a critical environmental threat, and addressing it requires collective action. Empowering the youth is crucial, as they are the leaders of tomorrow. Their passion and curiosity to learn more and do more is truly inspiring.”

Through such engaging initiatives, Unilever Bangladesh reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and community engagement, riding the wave of change towards a more sustainable future, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

By providing opportunities for employees to make a difference through Proyash, Unilever Bangladesh fosters a workplace culture where purposeful careers are cultivated, and individuals are empowered to create positive change in the world.
