A total of 19 candidates, whose nomination papers were primarily cancelled by the respective Returning Officers (RO) of the constituencies, regained their candidacies during the second day of appeal hearing by the Election Commission (EC) on Monday.
The hearing started at the commission building in Sher-e-Banglanagar area of Dhaka around 10 am on Monday with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in the chair.
Independent candidate from Chattogram-10 Constituency Farid Mahmud, Trinamool BNP candidate from Dhaka-10 Nazmul Islam, independent candidate from Mymensingh-11 Constituency Mohammad Abdul Waheed, independent candidate from Kushtia-4 Constituency Abdur Rauf, Munshiganj-2 Constituency candidate of Cultural Freedom Alliance Noore Alam Siddique and Nurul Amin from Dhaka-5, independent candidate from Rangpur-2 Sumna Akhtar, Jatiya Party candidate from Bagerhat-2 Hazra Sahidul Islam, independent candidate from Gaibandha-2 and Dhaka-14 Constituency Trinamool BNP candidate Md Nazmul Islam are among those who got their candidacy back.
Apart from these, independent candidate from Cumilla-2 Abdul Majid, BNF candidate from Dhaka-19 Md Julhas, BNF candidate from Dhaka-12 Atiqur Rahman Nazim, Trinamool candidate from Rajbari-2 SM Fazlul Haque also got back their candidatures during the appeal hearing till noon on Monday.
During the first day of the hearing held on Sunday, 94 appeals were heard by the commission and of them a total of 56 candidates, whose nomination papers were initially cancelled, got their candidacy back.
