EC suspends Ranga’s nomination

The nomination paper of independent candidate Mashiur Rahman Ranga for the Rangpur-1 (Gangachra) constituency has been suspended.

The Election Commission on Saturday took the decision following Ranga’s failure to submit essential documents in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Assistant Returning Officer and Gangachra Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahid Tamanna confirmed the matter.

Out of the 12 candidates for this seat, nominations of seven were validated, four were suspended, and one was cancelled.

Among other suspended are Bangladesh Congress candidate Shyamoli Roy, Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijot candidate Sabuj Pramanak, and Works Party candidate Bakhtiar Ahmed.

Additionally, the nomination of independent candidate Mosharof Hossain was cancelled due to discrepancies in the voter list.

The valid candidates are advocate Rezaul Karim Razu of Awami League, Hossain Makbul Shahriar Asif of Jatiya Party, Freedom fighter Badruddoza Chowdhury of Trinamool BNP, Habibur Rahman of National Peoples Party, independent candidates Asaduzzman Bablu, Monjum Ali and Shahin Alam.
