Social welfare minister wins hat-trick in Lalmonirhat

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed has won a hat-trick in Lalmonirhat-2 constituency (Aditmari-Kaliganj) in the 12th parliamentary election.

He has been elected MP for the third time in a row. He won by a margin of 46,946 votes for independent candidate Sirajul Haque in the results announced on Sunday night, UNB reports.

In the unofficial results of 120 out of 144 centres announced, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, who contested with the boat symbol, received 97,240 votes. District Awami League’s vice-president, independent candidate Sirajul Haque, received 50,501 votes with the eagle symbol.

The total number of voters was 4 lakh 2 thousand 34.

After the victory, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed thanked the people of Aditmari-Kaliganj and said, “I want to decorate Aditmari Kaliganj in a new way with everyone. The people of this area have made me happy by voting for the boat symbol in the past. I want to work shoulder to shoulder with the common people by continuing the development trend of this area in the future.”

Returning Officer Mohammad Ullah said that the election was held in a fair and beautiful manner in Lalmonirhat. There were no untoward incidents anywhere.
