Dengue disease is gradually increasing in 17 unions including the Pourasuva area of Gobindganj upazila of Gaibandha. At least 50 people including children and women have been affected by this disease in the upazila recently.
Meanwhile, patients suffering from various viral fevers including slight cold, fever and cough are also being admitted to the hospital, thinking that they have been infected with dengue. As a result, the number of patients in the health complex has increased. Due to the lack of beds in this 50-bed health complex, patients admitted on the floor and balcony of the ward are receiving treatment.
Yesterday Wednesday (16 August’23) at 11 o’clock, it was seen on the ground that four people, including a woman, were being treated for dengue. Even though they have been given mosquito nets, the neighboring patients are without mosquito nets.
A patient named Juthi from Piarapur village under treatment in the hospital said that mosquito nets are not given to patients other than dengue patients. Moreover, they are not treated differently. Keeping and treating dengue patients with normal patients is causing panic among other patients.
Upazila Health Officer (UHA) Dr Zafrin Zahid Diti said that 34 dengue patients have been identified in the whole upazila till Wednesday. Four of them, including a woman, are under treatment in the hospital.
He also said that dengue patients had traveled from Dhaka and from there carrying dengue germs came to the area and fell ill. In response to a question, the Diti said, there are enough mosquito nets in the health complex. But patients do not want to take mosquito nets, so they are not given them.
