Community clinics now respected all over the world: Health Minister

“Community clinics, dedicated to serving the people, are extremely dear to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now, community clinics in Bangladesh are respected by people all around the world,” he said while inaugurating the Sanjeev-Malati Community Clinic at Sangalshi of Sadar Upazila in Nilphamari on Saturday as chief guest.

He said he hoped people from remote areas will get healthcare through this community clinic.

We are trying to reduce caesarean sections. And if we can make the community health care clinics more efficient then many diseases can be monitored by community clinics. So you come to the community clinic and stay in touch.

He said: “We are trying to reduce cesarean sections. If pregnant women are checked at community clinics and then go to the upazila health complexes or hospitals for delivery, cesareans will no longer be necessary. This will save them from the costs of cesareans and help them lead healthy, normal lives.”

He said efforts are being made to enhance the functionality of community clinics further.

Nilphamari District Health Department and Rangpur Directorate of Health Engineering organized the event. After the inauguration, the minister visited the clinic and got his blood pressure checked there. He also planted a three sapling in the premises of the community clinic.

He said that the 50-bed hospitals across the country will be gradually increased to one hundred beds. The land acquisition issue for Nilphamari Medical College Hospital will be resolved soon, he added.

He also said allocation will be made for manpower and furniture for the new building of Nilphamari General Hospital, which has now 250 beds.

Nilfamari-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Siddiqul Alam Siddique, Secretary of Health Services Department of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Jahangir Alam, Director General of Health Department Professor Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Rangpur Divisional Director of Health Department Dr. A.B.M. Abu Hanif, Divisional Director of Family Planning Department Md. Enamul Haque, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hasibur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Farooq Al Masud, Superintendent of Police Mokbul Hossain, Deputy Director of District Family Planning Department Mozammel Haque, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, District Awami League President Dewan Kamal Ahmed, and Chairman of Upazila Parishad Abuzar Rahman were present at the event.
