Dhaka Community Medical College Hospital, on Wednesday, offers free cervical screening for 400 hundred women at the hospital at Boro Moghbazar in the capital from Thursday.
The Hospital authorities came up with the declaration at an event at the medical college as part of a study on the disease, according to a press release.
At team from the Gynecology Department of the hospital would analyse and examine the effectiveness of cervical cancer screening test such as visual inspection with acetic acid in short VIA and Pap smear, also called a pap test. During the study. Professor Quazi quamruzzaman, the Trust’s chairman also announced that they would provide free cancer treatment to anyone who tested positive.
Dr, Shah Ahmed Sharif , Convener, Bangladesh Medical Society of Victoria (BMSV), Australia said that Dhaka Community Medical College Hospital and Bangladesh Medical Society of Victoria, Australia are jointly conducting an awareness and screening program about cervical cancer. The program will reach at least 30,000 women and provide free screening to 400 women. Because awareness and screening are the main ways to prevent cervical cancer.
Professor Habibullah Talukder Ruskin the immediate past head of the cancer Epidemiology Department at the National Institute of Cancer Research and hospital, asked healthcare institutes to come forward to prevent cervical cancer.
The college Principal ASM Manirul Alam presided over the event, where gynecology Professor Saria Tasnim and Nahida Sultana among other spoke.
