Expert suggested raising social awareness from public-private sectors to improve the situation in Bangladesh, which is at risk of diabetes, said a press release.
Addressing a free diabetes screening camp at the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) on Tuesday, the speakers emphasized the importance of mass testing alongside systematic living during the COVID-19 pandemic.
DGDA and Denmark-based global leader in diabetes care company Novo Nordisk organized the free diabetes screening camp marking World Diabetics Day at DGDA premise at capital’s Mohakhali.
DGDA Director General Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman was present as chief guest while Assistant Directors Md. Aziulla and Md. Ayub Hossain was the special guest on the occasion. Apart from them, Novo Nordisk Bangladesh’s Director Commercial Affair’s Tanvir Sajib and other officials were present.
According to information from the World Diabetes Forum, diabetes may become a global plague by 2030 wherein Bangladesh will move up to seventh place in terms of patient numbers.
Director-General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, Major General Md. Mahbubur Rahman, said that the health sector’s capacity in Bangladesh was demonstrated during the Covid-19 outbreak when doctors and nurses served as frontline responders.
He applauded doctors’ contributions to preventing the spread of non-infectious disorders such as diabetes as a result of the coronavirus’s effects.
He also said that quality medicines for diabetes are now available for the struggle of local and foreign companies. But systematic behavior is urgent in diabetic patient’s personal life in addition to treatment.
This year’s theme for World Diabetes Day is ” Access To Diabetes Care: If Not Now, When?.” It means that now is the time to take advantage of important services, including Insulin. This year’s special importance is that it marks the 100th anniversary of the invention of Insulin.
Being requested by Bangladesh Diabetes Samity, the government proposed to the United Nations to declare ‘November 14’ as the ‘World Diabetes Day.’ Eminent physician and National Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan played a crucial role in this regard.
Honorable Prime Minister and Health Minister pledged to give free Insulin among Type-1 diabetic children free of cost as a part of different initiatives marking Mujib Year.
