HC asks to submit report on Ayaan’s death on Thursday

The High Court on Monday directed the director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to submit the investigation report on Thursday (January 25) on five-year-old Ayaan, who died following full anesthesia during a circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital on December 31, last.

An HC bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman and Justice Md. Atabullah paused the order.

Adv ABM Shahjahan Akand Masum was present on behalf of the writ petitioner, while deputy attorney general Tusher Kanri Roy and assistant attorney general Salim Azad were represented the state.

The same HC bench on January 15, issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be directed to take necessary steps to give Tk 5 crore to the family of Ayaan as compensation. And the court asked to submit an investigation report by seven days.

On December 31, Ayaan was admitted to the United Medical College Hospital for circumcision. When his physical condition deteriorated due to excessive anesthesia, his father took him to United Hospital. There he was on life support for seven days.

On January 9, Ayaan’s father Md. Shamim Ahmed filed a case against United Hospital and United Medical College Hospital, two of its doctors, unnamed directors, employees and staff over the death.
