The schedule of coming parliamentary election has been declared valid, according to a High Court verdict.
An HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah pronounced the verdict on Monday dismissing a writ filed earlier.
Writ petitioner Eunus Ali Akond was present in the court, while attorney general AM Amin Uddin on behalf of state and Barrister Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz for Election Commission.
Eunus Ali, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ on November 29 as a public interest litigation seeking a stay on the schedule that was issued on November 15 by the Election Commission (EC) for holding the 12th election on January 7, and to direct the EC to reschedule the date for holding the national polls.
In the writ, secretaries of law and justice department, legislative, cabinet and the chief election commissioner (CEC) have been made respondents.
