2 brothers die ‘inhaling toxic gas’ inside septic tank in Chandpur

Two brothers died apparently after inhaling toxic gas inside an under-construction septic tank of a local market in Chandpur this morning, according to local fire service.

The deceased were identified as a contractor, Golam Rabbani (38), and his brother Mohan Ali (28), a construction worker, from Nachol upazila in Chapainawabganj.

The incident occurred around 10:00am in Hajiganj Bazar area when they were working inside the under-construction tank, Sohail Mahmud, an additional superintendent of Chandpur Police, told a correspondent from Chandpur.

Rashedul Alam, station officer of Hajiganj Fire Station, said Mohon first climbed down inside the septic tank. As he was not coming, Rabbani went inside the tank to save his brother.

After they were rescued, the two were sent to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared them dead, he said.

Zobair Syed, officer-in-charge of Haijiganj Police Station, said procession is underway to file an unnatural death case.
