DGHS Director (Disease Control) Dr Md Nazmul Islam presented the report in a press conference held at the conference room of the Directorate Wednesday.

DGHS Director said: “Compared to the last two years, the occurrence of dengue disease in the country is slightly lower this year, but that is not enough.”

It was revealed in the report that some 27 wards of two city corporations of Dhaka are more vulnerable to dengue menace as about 12 percent residences of the aforesaid areas have high spread of Aedes mosquitoes, he mentioned.

He added that Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 392 houses that were surveyed.

Most of larvae were found in the stagnant water inside tyres or drums and plastic boxes which were thrown away here and there in the two city corporation areas, he said.

Of the total houses, 63 are under DNCC and 96 are under DSCC, he said, adding that the survey was conducted in about 3,150 houses in 110 areas including 48 areas under 40 wards of DNCC and 62 areas under 58 wards of DSCC from August 11 to August 23 last.

The density of mosquitoes was highest in ward number-8 (Kamalapur and Motijheel), Ward no. 38 (Nawabpur and Bangshal) and ward no. 41 (Wari and Narinda), he said.

Speaking at the press conference, Health Services Division Secretary Dr Anwar Hossain Howlader mentioned that when it rains regularly, the water accumulates, resulting in the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

He urged all to work together to tackle the dengue situation of the country.
