BNP has informed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) about its 28 October rally scheduled to take place in Nayapaltan but didn’t ask for any permission, the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Tuesday.
“We didn’t seek any permission for the rally in Nayapaltan on 28 October, the police has been informed. Awami League will not be able to stop this movement by intimidation, arrest or any kind of obstruction. People will protest and achieve victory,” Mirza Fakhrul said at a press conference organised at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office on Tuesday (24 October).
“It is their [government] innate habit to come to power through violence. Once again they chose that path. Despite talking about fair elections, they want to establish a reign of terror and hold one-sided elections. So that the people do not go to polling stations,” he added.
Criticising the bill that has been introduced in the Parliament giving Ansar the power to arrest and search, the BNP secretary general said, “Ansar are not really trained forces. Ziaur Rahman modernised the Ansar, while Awami League tried to politicise it.”
He also said that Khaleda Zia is very ill.
Mirza Fakhrul expressed condolences and demanded compensation for the victims of the Bhairab train accident.
BNP Vice-Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, former general secretary of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and others were present at the press conference.
