A Dhaka court Wednesday granted five-day remand to four people, including Ashraful Mandal alias Boss Rafi, one of the main ringleaders of the international women trafficking gang.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara granted the remand when investigating officer of the case Mohammad Mohiuddin Farooq produced them before the court with ten days of remand prayer for further investigation.
Defendants’ lawyers applied for bail to cancel the remand. After hearing both the parties, the court granted remand to each of the four persons for five days.
The other remanded accused are Abdur Rahman Sheikh, Ismail Sardar and Mst. Shahida Begum.
Ashraful Mandal alias Boss Rafi, his accomplice Shahida and four other members of the trafficking ring were arrested recently from the border area.
A viral video from social media shows vicious brutality and sexual abuse on a young woman by four or five people.
Cyber monitoring team noticed the video and started investigation. Later on, police identified Rifatul Islam alias ‘Tiktak Hridoy Babu’ as the culprit. Police tactfully found out from Hridoy’s WhatsApp number that he had been to India three months before. Some of his friends were present there while torturing that girl.
The girl’s father filed a case against the accused under the Human Trafficking and Pornography Act at Hatirjheel Police Station.
