The Public Service Commission (PSC) traditionally releases the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) notification on November 30 each year. However, this year, PSC is reportedly considering an earlier release date.
Sources indicate that PSC has been directed to proceed with recruitment against 3,460 vacant posts as per the request from cadre-controlling ministries and departments for various cadres in the 47th BCS. If finalized, this intake would be the highest among the last ten BCS exams.
A PSC official, speaking to Prothom Alo, confirmed the possibility of an early release, stating: “Preparations for the 47th BCS notification are underway. The Ministry of Public Administration recently sent a letter to PSC to proceed with the recruitment circular for 3,460 cadres. The notification is expected soon.”
While PSC rules stipulate that BCS notifications should be published on November 30, PSC Chairperson Mobaswer Monem noted that preparations are in progress, with the final decision pending an upcoming commission meeting.
In addition, there may be changes in the quota system for the 47th BCS. On July 21, the Appellate Division overturned a High Court order reinstating quotas, following demands from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Based on this decision, 93% of government positions will be filled by merit, with the remaining 7% divided as follows: 5% for freedom fighter quotas and 1% each for minorities, people with disabilities, and third-gender individuals.
Additionally, the interim government has set the age limit for government job applicants at 32 years and capped BCS exam attempts to four. These provisions may also be included in the upcoming 47th BCS notification.
