AB Party receives registration from EC following High Court order

The Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has received official registration from the Election Commission (EC) following a writ petition and subsequent orders from the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

This information was announced on Wednesday, August 21, through a notification signed by EC Secretary Shafiul Azim. The notification stated that, based on the High Court’s verdict and orders, the Election Commission has granted registration to AB Party as a political party under the provisions of the Representation of the People Order, 1972. This decision was made during a full meeting of the Election Commission today.

The notification further mentioned that the party has been assigned registration number 050, and its electoral symbol is the “Eagle.”

Earlier, on August 19, the High Court directed the Election Commission to register the Amar Bangladesh Party as a political party.

The order was issued by the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque. The High Court had previously issued a rule on August 31, 2023, asking why the Amar Bangladesh Party should not be registered as a political party.
