BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the USA, the event she joined at the World Bank headquarters and the meeting with IMF top official resulted in “zero achievement.”
“The World Bank’s loan was predetermined. It was earlier fixed that they will give this loan. So the achievement in the Prime Minister’s visit is zero,” he said.
The BNP leader made these remarks while talking to reporters after a close-door meeting with Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Oli Ahmed at Gulshan chairperson’s office.
“The IMF has said that under her (Sheikh Hasina) leadership… this is a blatant lie,” Fakhrul said adding that “We saw the papers… They (IMF) has already made a statement that they did not say this, only discussed in the meeting with her.”
Fakhrul said that the government is trying to mislead people from the beginning by spreading lies.
“Since there is no ground under their feet, by spreading this kind of false, they want to spread that the trip has been very successful,” he added.
Fakhrul said that people can be fooled for some days by telling lies, but they cannot be fooled for long. “Awami League is doing that.”
“This time they will fail. Because people have understood their lies. They will oust them from power and establish rule of people,”he added.
Responding to a question how he sees the Prime Minister’s three-nation tour amid the country’s economic woes, the BNP secretary general said, “These whole things or the visits are to prolong their stay in power. But there will be no benefits from doing these.”
“We did not want to talk with them. As the previous experiences we have, there can be no reason to sit with them for talks because they lie completely and they betray the nation,” Fakhrul said when asked about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statement in an interview with The Voice of America that she did not want to hold dialogue with BNP.
After the meeting, Oli Ahmed said, “The elected representatives are not ruling the country for 14-15 years. We are currently under one-party rule. We are all making a united movement under the leadership of BNP to get out of this situation.” BNP has already held meetings with Ganatantra Mancha, Bam Ganatantrik Oikya, 12-party alliance and nationalist like-minded alliances.
