Action against rebel candidates in due course: Quader

Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the stance taken by Awami League against rebel candidates will continue as usual.

There is nothing new to say. Action will be taken when there is appropriate time, said the senior Awami League leader in response to questions from reporters about the party’s position regarding the rebel candidates of Awami League in the city corporation elections.

The ruling Awami League paid a tribute to Sher-e-Bangla or Huq Saheb placing wreaths at his grave at Suhrawardy Udyan on Thursday marking his 61st death anniversary.

When asked whether the rebel candidates will be pardoned again, he said, the nomination papers have not been submitted yet. The decision will be taken in this regard in due course.

Regarding BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s doubt whether the new president will play a role in solving the political crisis, Obaidul Quader said in response that the president has just started his journey. We feel that the peaceful, democratic way in which the change of president has taken place is rare in the country. He is a Bengali at heart. Democracy, patriotism, everything is in his spirit. He is a follower of Bangabandhu’s ideology. This much I want to say about him, he will prove the rest by his actions.

Obaidul Quader said that communal violence is still plaguing the politics of Bangladesh. “Our fight against this evil is going on. This fight will continue to build a smart Bangladesh.”
