BNP launches two committees in Joypurhat

Joypurhat Sadar upazila and municipal unit committees of BNP have been announced amid the counter programs of the two factions.

In the triennial council on Friday night, the names of the president and secretary general as well as two organizing secretaries of both the committees were announced.

Hena Kabir was elected as president and Abu Bakr Siddique as secretary general of the Sadar upazila BNP, while Professor Aminur Rahman and Abu Rayan Ujjal were chosen as president and secretary general, respectively, for the municipal unit BNP.

Additionally, four organizing secretaries were elected, two for each unit.

Earlier, two BNP factions had announced counter-programs in the city, leading authorities to impose Section 144 in the area from 8am to 8pm on Friday to prevent disorder.

Obaidur Rahman, who served as the election commissioner for the triennial council, said: “Section 144 was in effect until 8pm, after which we announced the council results for the Sadar Upazila and Municipal units of BNP.”

However, leaders from another faction protested, alleging that their representatives were excluded from the council. In response, they organized a torch procession, accusing the district convenor and joint convenor of authoritarianism.
