Amina Begum’s success story

Amena Begum is a resident of Tarni Bari of Palashbari Union of Sadar Upazila under Nilphamari district. A family of 2 sons and 1 daughter with a day laborer husband.

We had no alternative source of income before joining the NGO World Vision. I somehow managed to survive with the income of my husband who was the sole earner. Almost every day one or two meals had to be spent.

In such a situation, I was selected as a member of the UPG team of World Vision. Take training in cow husbandry. After a few days I got a cow. Through various trainings and sessions from time to time, I can learn how to create alternative sources of income. So first I started saving. Then I bought a goat, a chicken, a pair of ducks and a pigeon with that deposited money.

Gradually those resources started to increase. Currently I have 4 cows, 4 goats, 10 chickens, 11 ducks and 30 pigeons. Apart from taking care of them, I grow vegetables around the house. I eat some myself and sell some. Thus, at the end of every month, I support my husband by paying three thousand rupees. My husband received zinc rice training from World Vision.

By cultivating zinc rice, people in my area can also know the benefits of zinc rice. Currently, many people in the village are now cultivating zinc rice.
